There are a myriad of activities available within and around Stanford. From going to the beach, cruising on river, walking in the fynbos, bird-watching, whale watching, wine-tasting, eating out - whatever your fancy, Stanford has it all.
Hermanus has a beautiful 27 hole golf course.
Cage diving to view the protected Great White Shark off Gansbaai (20 minutes drive from Stanford).
Wine estates abound around Stanford: Brunia, Boschrivier, Raka, Misty Mountains, Sir Robert Stanford, Springfontein, Stanford Hills, Walker Bay Vineyards.
Canoeing down the Klein Rivier or catching the African Queen for sundowners
Wind or kite surfing on the Klein Rivier lagoon or the beach.
While Die Ou Pastorie is on the Klein River, there are many beautiful beaches near-by in Hermanus, Pearly Beach, Die Kelders, and further up the coast. Beware though, unlike other parts of South Africa, the water can be cold.
Southern Right Whale watching in the Walker Bay whale sanctuary. There are many dedicated companies in Gansbaai and Hermanus which specialise in taking people to view this beautiful and majestic mammal.
Horseriding on the beach and through unspoiled nature reserves.
Surrounded by beautiful ‘fynbos’ reserves Stanford is a birders and hikers paradise.
Many restaurants serving traditional South African food (over the centuries South Africa has developed a unique merging of English, German, Dutch, African and Malay cuisine). Mariana's at Owl's Barn is probably the most famous and has been rated as "Best Country Restaurant" in South Africa.
Fishing in the lagoon, or off the beach or by boat is easily organised.
Take a trip to stand at the bottom point of Africa at Cape Agulhus. No Cape Point is not the bottom tip of Africa but rather the meeting point between the Indian and Atlantic oceans.
Cape Town is just 90 minutes drive from Stanford.

Or, if you're like me, you can simply sit back. Relax. Read a good book. And drink some of South Africa's greatest wine from the area. All the while taking in the beautiful view of 'our' mountain.
